Tortuguero National Park Natural History Tour

Explore Tortuguero National Park on a natural history walk through one of the country’s most important protected areas.

The trail is flat and easy to follow, making it suitable for most visitors. As you walk, your guide helps you spot wildlife that can be easy to miss, such as insects, amphibians, birds, and small mammals. They also explain how the rainforest and wetland systems function, based on the conservation approach used by SINAC.

The focus of the tour is observation and understanding rather than covering long distances. It’s a simple way to learn how the ecosystem works while spending time in a quiet forest setting.

"Memorable Experience"

We really enjoyed the natural history walk in Tortuguero National Park. It’s a calm, easy-paced tour, but it doesn’t feel basic. The guide was very attentive, constantly scanning the surroundings and pointing out things we would have walked right past — from small frogs to birds hidden in the trees. What stood out was how much context they gave, explaining how the forest and waterways are connected. You’re not covering long distances, but you’re always engaged. It’s a good balance between walking, observing, and actually understanding what you’re seeing.
