Irazú Volcano & Basilica of Our Lady of the Angels Tour

This tour offers the opportunity to visit Irazú Volcano and the Basilica of Our Lady of the Angels, two of Costa Rica’s most recognized landmarks. Travel from San José through the agricultural highlands of Cartago, enjoy views from the volcano’s summit, and discover the history and significance of one of the country’s most important religious sites. It is a combination of natural scenery, local culture, and historical heritage in a single day.

“A Great Combination of Nature and History”

This was a well-organized tour and a great way to visit two of Costa Rica’s most important landmarks in a single day. The drive to Irazú Volcano offered interesting views of the countryside and agricultural areas around Cartago. At the volcano, we had clear weather and were able to see the main crater and appreciate the unique landscape at the summit.

The visit to the Basilica of Our Lady of the Angels was equally worthwhile. It was interesting to learn about its history and significance to Costa Rican culture. Our guide provided useful information throughout the tour and kept everything running smoothly. Transportation was comfortable, and the schedule allowed enough time at each stop without feeling rushed. I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in nature, history, and local culture.

Visit Costa Rica’s Highest Volcano

Irazú Volcano rises to 3,432 meters (11,000 feet) above sea level, making it the highest volcano in Costa Rica. The summit offers a chance to observe its main craters and learn about the volcanic activity that has shaped the region. The route to the volcano also passes through productive farming areas that highlight the importance of the area’s fertile volcanic soil.

Discover the History of Cartago

As Costa Rica’s first colonial capital, Cartago plays an important role in the country’s history. This tour provides an opportunity to learn about the city’s origins, its cultural heritage, and its continued significance today. The combination of historical sites and local traditions offers a different perspective on Costa Rica beyond its natural attractions.

Explore an Important Religious Landmark

The Basilica of Our Lady of the Angels is one of the most visited religious sites in Costa Rica. Every year, thousands of pilgrims travel here to honor the country’s patron saint. Visiting the basilica allows travelers to appreciate its architecture, history, and cultural importance while gaining insight into a tradition that remains meaningful for many Costa Ricans.

Transportation Included

Transportation is included as part of the tour and is an important part of the overall experience. The itinerary combines several locations across different areas, and moving between them can be challenging for visitors who are unfamiliar with local roads, schedules, and logistics. By traveling with the tour, guests can focus on enjoying the visit while the guide and driver handle transportation, timing, and coordination between stops. This helps keep the day organized and allows the group to make the most of the time available.

Flexible Cancellation

Our flexible cancellation policy allows you to cancel with a full refund up to 48 hours before the tour day. You can easily cancel online, directly from your confirmation email —no need to talk to someone, and no questions asked.

The tour is generally open through most weather conditions (including rain). However, if there is challenging weather (such as a thunderstorm), we will work with you to reschedule or refund you.

Booking Your Tickets

Space on the Irazú Volcano & Basilica of Our Lady of the Angels Tour is limited because the national park restricts the number of visitors allowed each day. Advance reservations are required for all guests, and walk-in visits are not permitted.

We recommend booking as early as possible to secure your preferred date. Once your reservation is completed online, you will receive an immediate confirmation email with your booking details.
