The reserve has six distinct life zones: cloud forest, rainforest, and transition forest. The Curi Cancha Natural History Tour is a comprehensive, 2.5-hour nature tour along Curi Cancha’s most exciting trails, allowing you to discover the incredible biodiversity that surrounds this area. You may encounter a few mammals and a handful of bird species along the way, and our professional, local guide will help you spot and photograph them. You will also learn about this magical place’s stunning plants and ancient trees.

The experience is available three times daily, starting at 7:30 AM, 11:30 AM, or 1:30 PM at Curi Cancha. If you book one of the morning schedules, you will receive a map after the guided tour to continue exploring the trails until 4 PM. This tour is one of the most popular experiences in the area, so we recommend booking in advance to secure your spot.

Natural History Tour

We did the natural history walk at the Curi Cancha reserve, and I must say this was a good idea. This place has no cloud forest but is home to many exciting animals and birds that we could not see in the cloud forest. We saw toucan, tarantula, baby frogs, green viper, Scorpio. Our guide had 20 years in the business and was super experienced. He explained a lot, told funny stories, and helped us take photos. That is a beautiful experience, and we would recommend it further definitely.

Natural History Tour

We did the Natural History Tour (approx. 2.5 hours) at Curi Cancha, which was hands down my favorite experience in all of Costa Rica. At the time of the visit, we booked the 7:30 AM tour and highly recommend it if you're looking for an all-encompassing experience for flora and fauna. Not only did we luck out with our guide, an enthusiastic and knowledgeable naturalist, but we also found a keel-bill toucans, bungee caterpillars, wild pigs, armadillos, agouti, capuchins, etc.
